Sin By Silence

The documentary we watched last week in class is still haunting me.  I cannot believe the politics behind the prison system.  As much as it shocks me, at the same time it does not.  I could write a whole blog on just that documentary, in other words I do not even know where to begin.

It also made me think of a documentary I watched in the fall.  It is called Sin By Silence and it is about a group of women in jail for killing their husbands.  So right off the bat it seems justified that these women are spending the rest of their lives in jail, right?  Well, not so much.  This documentary tells the stories of a group of women who had been abused by their husbands, some of them for years and years.  Most of these women felt like they would have been killed by their husbands if they did not fight back.  Domestic violence is a subject that I hold close to my heart and I feel for these women.  These women are not a danger to society and fell victim to this vicious cycle of abuse.  If you all have time I really recommend this documentary, it is very powerful.  It also shows another downfall in our justice system.
